About Jac & Sully's Clay

Hi, I’m Jac, the maker and teacher behind Sully’s Clay.

My metal clay journey began in 2020, and what started as a love for making silver jewellery quickly grew into something much bigger. I fell completely in love with the freedom of metal clay - being able to take an idea in my head and turn it into something I could actually wear, gift or treasure.

But just as much as I loved making, I discovered that I really loved teaching.

Over the years, I’ve taught makers from complete beginners through to more experienced jewellery makers, both online and in person, helping people understand not just what to do, but why it works. My goal has always been to make metal clay feel less intimidating and much more achievable.

Making the tools I wished I had

One of the things that makes Sully’s Clay different is my love of problem-solving.

If there’s a tool I think would make creating with metal clay easier, more accurate or simply more enjoyable, I don’t just wish it existed - I design it.

I taught myself 3D design and began creating my own tools specifically for metal clay. From the initial idea, through designing and testing, to 3D printing the finished product, I’m involved in the whole process.

What started with me making tools for my own jewellery making has grown into a collection of purpose-designed tools used by makers around the world, including tools available through Metal Clay Ltd and Cool Tools.

For me, the tools are never about making things complicated. They’re about removing the frustrating parts of jewellery making so you can concentrate on the creative part.

Teaching makers around the world

Today, I teach students worldwide through my online community and courses, as well as running in-person classes here in Devon.

I especially love helping beginners take those first steps with metal clay. I remember what it was like to learn something completely new, and I know how overwhelming it can feel when you're faced with unfamiliar tools, techniques and terminology.

That’s why I teach in a way that is practical, honest and approachable. I want you to feel confident enough to experiment, make mistakes, try again and ultimately develop your own style.

Whether you're picking up metal clay for the very first time or you're looking to develop your skills further, my aim is to give you the knowledge, tools and confidence to create jewellery you're genuinely proud of.

From my little corner of Devon to makers everywhere

I’m based on the edge of beautiful Dartmoor in Devon, where I run my business, design my tools and create my jewellery.

Sully’s Clay has grown far beyond what I imagined when I first started working with metal clay in 2020. But at its heart, it’s still about the same thing:

Making jewellery, solving problems and helping other people discover just how creative they can be.

I believe metal clay is an incredible medium because it gives you the freedom to create without needing a huge workshop or years of traditional jewellery-making experience.

And I want to help make that possibility available to as many people as possible.

So whether you're here to learn, create, find the right tools or simply be inspired, welcome to Sully’s Clay.

I’m so glad you’re here.
